Remote sensing and spatial data analysis

The members of the research group are mainly engaged in the processing and practical application of remote sensing data. A key research area is the analysis of image processing, artificial intelligence, data integration, and data from multiple sources in support of precision farming. Digitization in agriculture, international cooperation in some research topics. Cooperation with farmers on agricultural research topics.
Main research areas:

  • Image classification methods: object-based image processing (OBIA), artificial intelligence: decision trees, random forests, neural networks, etc.
  • Plant monitoring
  • The role of UAVs in agricultural plant analysis
  • Humidity estimation by remote sensing methods, research of estimation models
  • Drought monitoring
  • Research on the relationship between yield and factors influencing crop production
  • Precision farming
  • The role of GIS in the management, analysis, and retrieval of agricultural data
  • Practical applications of remote sensing, e.g. mapping land use change, mapping the urban environment
  • Decision support with GIS methods
  • Production of terrain models, terrain analysis
  • Data quality and uncertainty issues
